Martian Child the movie

William and I recently saw the move Martian Child with John Cusack. I read the book Martian Child a few years ago, and thought that it was an amazing adoption story. I was excited when I heard they were making it into a movie. The book is about a single gay man who adopts a young boy out of foster care. The boy has a severe case of ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder), and additionally truly believes he is a alien from Mars, visiting the planet for a short time. With all the love in the world these two set out to make a family. Both experience the ups and downs of parenting, the true meaning of what unconditional love is, and the joy of learning that we are all different. The movie version has changed a bit (they always do). They made the main character straight, a widower, and changed the ending a little. In the movie they changed a little bit too much of the book for my likeing - but I highly encourage you to read the book... it's a great tale of adoption.

We found your blog while searching open adoption. We live in Arizona, and adopted our daughter one year ago through open adoption. From experience, I can tell you that the wait is worth it. I am sure it feels like your year + of waiting is dragging, but the pot of gold is just around the corner.

Wish you the best.
